The ILM Level 2 Award in Team Leading is a qualification that has been specifically designed to give practising or aspiring team leaders a solid foundation in their formal development as a leader.

This is a concise qualification designed to give learners a basic knowledge of the various roles, functions and responsibilities of a team leader and the limits of their authority and accountability. The mandatory unit in ‘Developing yourself as a team leader’ is a good starting point for team leaders who are new to their roles or for aspiring leaders who wish to gain a solid understanding of the principles and practicalities of team leading.

The course covers the following areas:

  • Communication.
  • Organisation.
  • Effective working relationships.
  • Improving team performance.
  • Customer service.

On completion of the Award, delegates will know how to:

  • Describe specific responsibilities of a team leader.
  • Identify areas of improvement by the use of feedback on personal strengths and weaknesses.
  • Describe one thing that can be done to establish and maintain trust within the team.

There are no formal entry requirements, but participants will normally be either practising or aspiring team leaders with the opportunity to meet the assessment demands, and have a background that will enable them to benefit from the programme.

In order to achieve the ILM Level 2 Award in Team Leading, delegates must complete the mandatory unit (M2.01 – Developing Yourself as a Team Leader) plus selected optional unit(s) with a minimum total credit value of two.

There will be a requirement for a minimum of 22 guided learning hours.

Candidates will need to complete a reflective review for the mandatory/optional unit(s) which will meet the indicative content requirements of the unit to the standard required by the awarding body.

Upon successful completion of the programme, delegates will be awarded the ILM Level 2 Award in Team Leading.
